This habitat survey by Friends of Lee Point in Aug 2026 shows most of the Lee Point 2CRU offset to be monsoon forest.
Photos were taken of the offset at various sites, refer Fig 1.
Heading north, the first 170m (sites 1 and 2) was eucalypt woodland with monsoon rainforest in the gullies. The remainder of the offset (sites 3 and 4) was monsoon rainforest.
Apart from five eucalypts (Blakella spp) trees in the first 100m of the monsoon rainforest no eucalypts or pandanus were seen. The largest trees in the monsoon rainforest were northern black wattle (Acacia auriculiformis) – large tree hollows are generally not seen in this genus. Other tree species are much small in diameter.
The trees in the monsoon rainforest have very few large tree hollows compared to the adjacent large trees in the woodland.
