City of Darwin will now write to Federal Ministers requesting a Senate inquiry into the Lee Point housing project. The motion was moved by Councillor Julie Fraser, seconded by Councillor Edwin Joseph, and carried 7 to 5.
Planning for the Lee Point housing project started with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the NT Government and DHA in 2003. The MOU shows both parties had committed to rezoning and development of Lee Point.
The amount of public consultation carried out for the rezoning and transfer of disused defence land at Lee Point to DHA remains unclear.
