The site should be fully protected.
A comprehensive area plan makes sense to also view the bigger picture.
The housing can be better located nearer the Robertson Barracks.

Binybara Lee Point should be fully protected and all land clearing should stop. Labor has not listened to Larrakia Tradional Owners and many people in the community want Binybara saved. Theres only one Binybara Lee Point: its cultural significance and natural value can’t be replaced.

The Government needs to listen to the community who have spoken loudly and clearly about the need to Save Lee Point. What are they doing to support and represent the many many thousands of people who want to protect this important and beautiful place?
Johnston
Billie Barton – Greens
YES
The NT Greens stand with the community in their strong and brave opposition to the development of Lee Point. Natural spaces are what makes Darwin special, and why we all love living here. I oppose the clearing of this place that is so important to so many, from a biodiversity, cultural and community perspective.

Lee Point must be saved for future generations and to bulldoze it shows total disregard for the climate emergency that we face.

This area is so special to our community and to the Larrakia people. We need to protect such a precious and irreplaceable place, and also be smarter in our design of suburbs so that new housing is close to services, well connected to public transport and has adequate Green spaces for climate mitigation.

I support a moratorium on the DHA development at Lee Point. The community response to protect Lee Point/Binybarra has been immense and the government has not consulted them in any meaningful way. Protecting old-growth urban wildlife refuges from development is key to providing habitat for wildlife in an extinction crisis.

I will absolutely support a moratorium on the current DHA Housing project. I will continue to fight alongside my Elders, my community and Territorians to ensure we as Politicians respond with integrity to the needs and wishes of the community.

I support a moratorium on Lee Point and a revisit of the plans to force them to comply with the EPBC Act as a minimum. I will endeavour to get it shifted to Holtze. The environmental and social consequences are too great.
Wanguri
Andrew Coates – Greens
YES
There are other locations that the DHA housing can be moved to, but you can’t just move or replace old growth woodland that is a key biodiversity hotspot … This is a special site for so many Territorians and the community needs to be listened to.

I stand with the community in their strong opposition to the development of Lee Point. We must protect Lee Point given its significance from a biodiversity, cultural and community perspective. We must also be smart in our design of housing developments so that residents are well connected to services.

I absolutely support the moratorium of Lee Point. Thank you to all members of the Save Lee Point Group who have exposed the NTG lack of environmental consultation.

Levelling Lee Point to build DHA housing is clearly unpopular and requires smart decision making. I stand with the community and fully support a moratorium that allows for proper consideration of the ecological, social and cultural values of the site

I have been supportive of the Lee Point protests throughout the campaign and Sunset Soup Kitchen provided swags and power generator for the campers during the overnight actions.

Labor was contacted several time by email and phone but no written response was received. On Katie Woolf 360 interviews; Wanguri – Shlok Sharma and Casuarina – Lauren Moss indicated that the Lee Point project should proceed.
CLP Opposition Leader Lia Finocchario sent a letter to Friends of Lee Point Inc on behalf of her Oppostion Team stating that “… lt is important that all development is managed well, that the local environment is carefully considered and the appropriate approvals and consultation is thorough. We believe that all of these necessary steps have taken place and the development should proceed“.
This was taken to be a NO from all CLP potential candidates.
Independents that did not answer the question YES or NO but provided a response were listed as UNDECIDED.
